Is cursing really necessary for comedians?

I'm watching Katt Williams do one of his stand-up shows, and he curses like every other word. I'm not against cursing altogether, but if a comedian does it too much it seems like he/she is using it as a crutch because his jokes aren't really that funny. Does cursing always enhance a joke, or is it possible to overuse it?
